Many local residents and most of our visitors may be completely unaware that Bridlington is the Lobster Capital of Europe – with over £9M of catch landed in 2018. Around 90% of the catch is exported to Europe, The Far East and even The United Arab Emirates.
However there is still sufficient in Bridlington for us to really begin to capitalise on the tourism benefits that this kind of Food Tourism can bring to Bridlington and the surrounding areas.
Food Tourism is the largest growing sector in the tourism industry and using Yorkshire, as one of the most well-known tourism brands in the UK, there is opportunity to hit new heights in tourism for the area, creating a new high quality appeal.
Following on from the success of the Bridlington seafood festival in 2019 (when over 11,000 visitors attended the event), we are organising the Bridlington Bay Lobster Festival 2020 which will be held on the newly refurbished Garrison Square, overlooking the sea and Historic Harbour and directly adjacent to the main shopping streets.
The event, which will be free for visitors to enter, will feature seafood trade stalls; cookery demonstrations; musical entertainment; street theatre; children’s activities and entertainment; local maritime organisations and an evening entertainment programme on the Saturday evening.
The Bridlington Bay Lobster Festival 2020 will take place on Saturday 20th June 10:00am – 10:30pm and Sunday 21st June 2020 10:00am – 4:00pm.
