Businesses cleared for June reopening

Information from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Coronavirus pages.

The following shops and branches are able to reopen their businesses from 1 June 2020 or 15 June 2020 after temporary closure due to COVID-19.

1 June 2020

  • Indoor and outdoor markets
  • Car retail showrooms.

15 June 2020

Shops and branches include all retail stores.

This includes the following:

  • Food retailers
  • Chemists
  • Hardware/homeware stores
  • Fashion shops
  • Charity shops
  • Betting shops and arcades
  • Tailors, dress fitters and fashion designers
  • Car dealerships
  • Auction houses and antique stores
  • Retail art galleries
  • Photography studios
  • Gift shops and retail spaces in theatres, museums, libraries, heritage sites and tourism sites
  • Mobile phone stores
  • Indoor and outdoor markets
  • Craft fairs
  • Similar types of retail.

Please note: if you have outdoor furniture available that this CANNOT be placed on the highway and internal seating at your premises must not be provided for customers to use at this time, this includes all customer use of adjacent outdoor areas, where takeaway food and drink has been provided.

Businesses will only be able to open from these dates if they are COVID-19-secure, this will involve meeting the 5 steps of safer working under COVID-19 including completion of a risk assessment, in consultation with trade union representatives or workers, and that they are confident they are managing the risks. They must have taken the necessary steps to become COVID-19 secure in line with the current Health and Safety legislation and display a poster to confirm this.

Please be aware that the following businesses will REMAIN CLOSED until we reach phase 3 of the recovery plan, likely to be in early July 2020:

  • Restaurants, bars and pubs*
  • Indoor arcades such as family entertainment centres
  • Cafes* and canteens
  • Piercing and tattoo parlours
  • Barbers and hairdressers
  • Holiday accommodation - including caravan sites/camp sites
  • Community centres
  • Nightclubs
  • Sex establishments
  • Leisure activity premises (bingo, indoor children play areas)
  • Gyms (indoors and outdoors).

*Other than for takeaway food/drink (including alcohol if off sales licence is in place).
